Singers are the star attraction

- By Neill Barston @neillbarston

nbarston@thekmgroup.co.uk Aspiring young singers from Bridge and Patrixbourne Primary School have teamed up to produce a CD to fundraise for new music and arts room facilities.

Each year group contributed to a collection of songs, including covers of Gary Barlow’s Sing, Somewhere Over The Rainbow and a ukulele version of George Ezra hit Budapest.

Music teacher Dan Luck praised the efforts of everyone involved in putting together the school’s musical collaboration, which went on sale as a star attraction of its annual summer fair.

Proceeds from the day will help fund the construction of a new permanent music building after its last facility was turned into a kitchen to help provide free school meals for early-years pupils.

Mr Luck said: “It’s lovely that we have facilities for meals to be prepared on site now, which is making a difference, but it was a shame to have to lose our music room space for the kitchen.

“We are hoping to build a new music space on-site, one which can be used not only by the school, but the whole community as well.

“We are really keen on the arts here at Bridge.”

Mr Luck says the school intends to name its new room after one of its art teachers, Pamela Clubb. He says the 62-year-old is retiring this month from her role after 44 years in the profession and the school wants to pay tribute to her hard work. She was recently named as the Kent teacher of the year for the Canterbury district.

Dan said any donations towards the school’s cause would be gratefully received, and he hoped that combined musical efforts of its pupils will help deliver its muchneeded new facilities. Anyone interested should contact 01227 830276.
