Club records sent tumbling

Faversham SC broke several club records at their annual outdoor championsh­ips.

No less than 12 records were smashed – three of which had stood since the 1970s.

Max Fordyce set three club records – in the boys’ 10 years 110 yards freestyle (1min 18.19sec), the 110 yards breaststro­ke (1.38.69) and the 440 yards breaststro­ke (7.24.01).

Elite swimmer Olivia Hawkins enjoyed a series of successes, breaking club records in the girls’ 15 years 110 yards backstroke in 1.13.26, the 16 years and under 4x66 yard individual medley (3.50.96), the 15 years 110 yards breaststro­ke (1.27.40), the 15 years 110 yards freestyle (1.06.82) and the 16 years and under 880 yards (24 lengths) freestyle (10.34.72).

Tom Guthrie took the club record in the men’s 17 years and over 110 yards breaststro­ke (1.17.31). Molly Stemp broke the club record – from 1978 – in the girls’ 14 years 110 yards breaststro­ke (1.28.40), while Bella Holt snatched records in the girls’ 9 years 110 yards breaststro­ke in 1.53.21 – a record which had held fast since 1977. Holt also won the 9 years 110 yards freestyle (1.27.39).

The girls’ 880 yards (24 lengths) freestyle event was won by Olivia Hawkins who surged ahead early on and finished in 10.34.72. Rebecca Crouch was second (11.08.88), while Emily Holt took bronze (11.42.96).

The 12 years and under race was won by Eva McIntyre (12.15.30), Bella Holt took silver (14.09.08) and Molly Hebden bronze (14.24.72).

The boys’ 880 yards freestyle saw Fordyce steal the show with a gold medal win, recording 12.17.15, Jamie Spice was second (13.04.28) and Samuel Hawkins third (13.10.21).

The girls’ 440 yards (12 lengths) breaststro­ke was won by Molly Stemp in 7.06.00. Silver went to Poppy Boorman (7.20.95), while Emily Ing took bronze (7.25.58).
