Just no End to club’s losing Street
Kent Regional League
Street End are still searching for their first win in Division 1A East despite 14-year-old wicketkeeper Tom Williams taking four catches in last weekend’s 24-run defeat to Ramsgate Corinthian. Williams’s handy glovework restricted Corinthian to 203 all out, batting first. In reply, Sam Gransden – carrying a persistent shoulder injury – top-scored with 55 not out, but it was not enough for 10-man Street End, who were all out for 179. Will Trafford (44 not out) and Jason Robson (44) top-scored for Canterbury 3rds on their way to a five-wicket victory at home to Margate. The visitors were put in to bat first and, with only 10 players, were all out for 193, which Canterbury successfully chased down in 43.5 overs. Littlebourne didn’t have a fixture last weekend, but they remain top of the league, two points above Ash. Simon Bates’s half-century was the only real resistance that Littlebourne 3rds were able to mount in their nine-wicket loss against Kennington in 1C East. Bates scored 68 but received little support – with only two other batsmen reaching double figures – as his side were dismissed for 131 in 33 overs. David Philpott took 5-15 to restrict Littlebourne before Jamie Hutton’s unbeaten 77 eased Kennington to victory. Herne Bay picked up 20 points after New Romney & Littlestone conceded their fixture. Street End 2nds are still languishing at the bottom of the table after conceding their game against Folkestone. Sam Harrison’s figures of 4-24 set up a one-wicket win for Littlebourne over Willesborough in a low-scoring encounter in 2B East. Harrison received good support from Robbie Lawson (3-35) to restrict Willesborough to 110 all out. Littlebourne’s top-scorers Neil Davey (23) and Lawson (23 not out) helped their side scrape victory. A century from Herne Bay captain Jeremy Taylor was not enough to rescue victory for his side as they lost narrowly to Ash by 15 runs. Having won the toss and elected to field first, Bay restricted their opponents to 181 all out, with Danny Beeson (4-37) the leading wicket-taker. However, despite Taylor scoring 109 at the top of the order, only two of his teammates reached double figures as they were all out for 166. Sturry, second in 2B East, hurried to a seven-wicket victory over Upchurch 4ths, for whom opener Steven Parker hit an unbeaten 109 in a total of 165-6. Sturry reached their target in 20.2 overs, led by Shane Busby (38), Jamie Pout (35), Mark Reynolds (34 not out) and David Gentry (30 not out).
