Underdogs surprise Castle in cup

Shipwright Arms, of Division 2, reached the third round of the Henry Court Cup with a 2-0 success over Premiershi­p side Castle B.

Artichoke A lost 2-0 at the Compasses in another second round match, while in an all-Division 2 clash, Smugglers B lost 2-0 at home to Market Inn B.

Kestrels reached the next round with a 2-0 success at home to Evenhill Crusaders. Littlebour­ne Rec also progressed, via a bowl-out at the expense of Frog & Orange.

Salters Lane side Faversham Town FC crashed out at home to Castle A.

In the preliminar­y round of the Henry Court Plate, Artichoke B got the better of Dove Inn A to move into the first round.

Gentil Knyght B followed with a 2-0 victory at Herne Bay FC. Knyght’s Rhys Davies hit 20 in the first leg and a 21 not out in the second.

Golden Lion A defeated hosts George Inn to reach the first round.

The Gentil Knyght Fours third round had an all-Kestrels battle at the Golden Lion. Kestrels 1 defeated Kestrels 2 to come out on top.

Gentil Knyght C1 travelled to Chartham to take on the Artichoke B and came away victorious, thanks to Steve Budd hitting 19 runs and Ben Foster knocking the winning runs with two not outs – one in each leg.

A 66-run haul for Peter Spencer paved the way to victory for the Two Brothers at Gentil Knyght C2’s expense, despite a valiant 32 runs by the Knyght’s Donald Lawrence.

Market Inn went to top of Ladies’ Division 1 after a 2-0 win at the Catholic Club despite Daphne King scoring 30 runs for Catholic Club in the second leg.

Amanda Parsons scored 33 for Market in the same leg while team-mate Karen Murray took a total of three traps.

Golden Lion suffered their first defeat going 2-0 down to Golden Oldies with Jan Gardener scoring 25 runs in the second leg for the Oldies.

Ratling Club secured a 2-0 win over Haywain with Hayley Nash scoring 28 runs in the second leg and three traps.

After losing the opening leg, Kings Head A came back to beat Kings Head B 2-1.

Cheryl Collier scored 34 and Stacey Jones 24 not out in the second leg while Anna Jones scored 23 in the third.

In Division 2, Castle B clung on to top spot despite losing 2-1 against Castle A. Kim Miller scored 23 runs in the first leg for the winners while Debbie Higgins and Lydia Lester took three traps.

Gentil Knyght beat Ye Olde Beverlie 2-1 while the Artichoke beat Red Lion A 2-1 despite Kath Neale scoring 25 runs to help Red Lion take the second leg.
