Barry Jones (146) was third, with Gary Kelk fourth on comeback with 147. Derek Broadbent won the Five Club competition with 37 points. Martin Izzard was second on 36, with Roy Paine (35) third on countback, one of four players to finish on the same score. Lynne Evison and Margaret Hillier (41 points) won the Chestfield round of the Ping fourball betterball and are now waiting to find out if they have done enough to progress to the next round of the national competition. Chris Dunlop and Yvonne Bridge and Patsy Haynes and Mary Robinson were jointsecond with 40. Sue Clough and Penny Entwhistle (37) were third, two ahead of fourth-placed Carol Doghan and Maureen Lee. The Herdman Porter Bowl was played in superb conditions with 17-handicapper Steve Loud shooting a net 65 to triumph, by one shot, from Jim Randle, playing off 18. The Division 1 winner was Michael Barnes-Webb (h10) with a net score of 68.

Herne Bay-based golfer Richard Wallis (North Foreland) returned to winning ways with victory in the PGA Prince’s 27 with Tony Adams, his amateur partner from Prince’s. The local pair shot a nineunder par 27 hole total over Prince’s three nines to claim a three-stroke victory, resulting in an £850 cheque for the four-time Order of Merit champion and a GoKart trolley for threehandicapper Adams. The unique format exploits Prince’s three nines layout, with round one being foursomes over the Shore nine, round 2 being greensomes over the Dunes nine and the last round played as a fourball betterball over the Himalayas nine. The win was Wallis’ second of the season and he said: “This is a terrific way to play Prince’s and enjoy every one of its testing holes to the max. “It’s a refreshing change to the normal Pro-Am format and with the foursomes and greensomes formats, it also made for some decently quick golf as well.” Wallis and Adams completed their nines in 34, 31 and 33, winning the first two rounds on their way to the overall team title. Wallis added: “This event is a great idea from Prince’s and The PGA and it’s growing every year. “I’m also looking forward to the PGA Kent Open Championship when it’s played here in mid August.”
