Monument’s revenge win

The quarter-finals of the Ken Cattell Team Cup Knock-out were played in the Herne Bay & District Winter Darts League last Monday night. The top game was the all Premier Division clash between the Monument and the Tally Ho. Group C winners Monument hosted Group D runners-up Tally Ho but it was the Tally Ho who went into the match as the favourites having won 10-1 at the Monument in the league last month. The Tally took a 1-0 lead but the Monument rallied to lead 5-2 and although Laurence Parker pulled one back, any comeback hopes were shortlived as the Monument secured the win at 6-3 through man-of-the-match Steve Murray. The Monument wrapped up an excellent 8-3 win through Steve Milward and Paul Manson, who checked-out on 100. Group D winners and Premier Division side Divers Arms B were given a scare as they had to come from behind to defeat Group A runners-up, Division 1 side Chislet Colliery Club 6-4 to book a place in the semifinal. Divers Stacey Dawkins checked-out on 100 and her team-mate Steve Moys hit a maximum. Group B winners and cup holders the Divers Arms A safely booked their place in the next round with a 10-1 home win over Group C runners-up, Division 1’s Rising Sun. Group A winners Smugglers Inn completed the semi-final line up with an 11-0 home win over Group B runnersup, Division 1’s Huntsman & Horn. Smugglers duo John Hughes and Steve Peacock each hit maximums. In the Team Plate Knockout, Premier Division side Golden Lion put their league relegation worries behind them as they ran out 6-0 home victors over Division 1 Catholic Club. The Druids Head beat Heron 9-2 in an all-division 1 affair to make the semifinals. An win from Dave Anderson put the Druids into a commanding 5-1 and although Heron skipper Debbie Milner, helped by a 180, won her singles games in a player-of-the-match performance to pull one back, she was unable to inspire a comeback. Oyster’s Joe Kelly helped Kent reach the Liberty Trophy final as they beat defending champions Northamptonshire 116-94 at Barking.

Team manager Mick Collins was able to name a near full-strength team for the semi-final tie, with Kent winning by four rinks to two.

They now meet Durham at Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire on Sunday April 17.
