Canterbury League

- By Bill Clark

The Bull eased themselves into the semi-finals of the Faversham Charity Cup, Junior Section at Charing on Easter Monday with a 6-2 victory over Cantiaci.

Kush Nuredini scored twice for the hosts while Stefan Wall (3), Steve Sparks (2) and Dan Cass sent Graham Hampton’s team through.

Social Team United will be waiting for the Bull after beating near neighbours Minster 3-1.

Lee Palmer, Danny Atkins and Curtis Winnett scored for the Kent Cup finalists while Todd Jordan replied for the Division 2 champions.

The winners of the Tankerton versus Snodland semi-final will be installed as favourites to lift the Veterans Charity Cup but they shouldn’t underestimate Tankerton Slayers on the evening of May 6.

Strikes by John Atkinson, Darren Tudor and Will Greenham put Slayers in the final for the first time while Darren Ruler grabbed Vinters’ consolation in their semi-final.

It was all too easy for Sturry against Monument PFC in the Premier Division .

Ryan Clark rolled in the opener and with the oystermen looking less than interested when the game resumed Luke Hedges and Craig Swann made the final score 3-0.

A 1-1 draw was of no benefit for either Chartham Sports or the University and both sides remain in the bottom three.

Lance Cruz notched for the students while Carlo Valente equalised for the papermakers.

Burgess Hodgson took a point from a 4-4 draw with champions Faversham United to maintain their push for the title and their intended move into the County League at the end of the season.

Dion Orris, Matt Lightfoot, Mike Kelly and Adam Horne scored for the accountants while Dave Miles, Eddie Johnson and Bill Croucher kept the visitors in touch until the final minute when Dave Shepherd back heeled a pass from Steve Barleycorn past Ben Houston in the hosts’ goal.

Burgess Hodgson head the table by nine points with four games to play.

Hampton Rangers beat Charing 6-0 in Division 1 with strikes by John Pilcher (3), Ben Emery and Harry Paxman. Tommy Wood and Kevin Harmer scored for Deal Community Reserves against Sentinels but it wasn’t enough for the seasiders to secure the win as Russell Laker, Ollie Moorhen, Jordan Lawrence and Shaun Pout made it 4-2 in favour of the Faversham outfit.

Before Christmas, Woodnesborough’s top striker Gavin Marsh single handedly re-wrote the records books with his scoring exploits but since then the goals have been harder to find.

As a result, the Eastry Road team have now exited all the cup competitions and a mid-table finish is the best that the club can achieve.

Against strugglers Sturry Reserves, Matt Carvosso and an own goal had the hosts controlling affairs but a lapse in concentration saw the quarrymen’s second string earn a point when Shaun Smith notched twice.

Locomot ive Re s e rve s ’ Division 2 promotion bid took a knock when Canterbury Monument beat them 4-1 with strikes from Andrew Russ (2), James Budge and an own goal.

Phil Swift slotted for the visitors.
