Semi-final win some consolation
Herne Bay & Whitstable Sunday League
Beaten Kent Cup semi-finalists Monument PFC had something to celebrate this week when they won through to the final of the Whitstable Charity Cup.
Monument, beaten by Quested in the county competition the previous weekend, edged out Faversham Strike Force 2-1 in their Senior Section semi-final at Canterbury’s St Edmund’s School.
Monument’s Sam Rigden opened the scoring with a delicate chip over and Ashley Kohler made it 2-0 after great work by James Hart.
Strike Force’s Rob Beazleigh pulled a goal back early in the second half but despite both sides having further chances, Monument defended well to hold out.
Spartan and Chartham have still to play their quarter-final with the winners then facing Waterfront for the right to play Monument.
County finalists Rising Sun reached the last four of the League Challenge Cup after easing past Littlebourne 3-0.
Dave Soutan (2) and Wayne Fittall were their scorers. They now face Spartan who are already assured of at least one final appearance, after pipping Falcons 2-1 in the last four of the Tommy Coulter Memorial Cup.
Connor Ashman and Ritchie Martin were their scorers to set-up a showdown against Jadon Blues at Faversham, on April 5.
Tankerton Royals will meet Littlebourne in the semi-finals of the Faversham Charity Cup, Senior Section after a 4-2 victory at Chartham.
Lewis Heard (2), Joe Bill and Gary Cooper all netted for Royals.
Cross Keys will meet Monument in the other semi after they beat Waterfront 2-1 courtesy of goals from Ben Walsh and Tom O’brien.
A1 Tyres require just one more win to secure the Division 2 title after beating Blean Sunday 3-1.
Lee Phillips, Myles Gillihan and Harry Gower scored the goals.
Wingham – 10-3 victors over Woodman’s Hall – can still overhaul them but need to win their remaining three games and hope the long-time leaders don’t collect another point.
Chislet CW moved up to second in Division 3 with an 8-0 victory over the league’s bottom club, Canterbury Toon but leaders Monument A still boast a healthy four-point lead after defeating Whitstable Town Juniors 2-1 with goals from Nick Bergin and Joe Mullan.
Oare (Ben Rowley) and Faversham Strike Force (Jake Stebbeds) shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
