Happy to go on the run in memory of their friend

-

School friends of a teenager who died from a rare heart condition donned fancy dress for a charity fun run in his memory.

A field of 85 from St Edmund’s tackled a 6km route from Whitstable back to the school to raise more than £3,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

The run is an annual event organised by Watson House, but this year’s had added poignancy following the death last summer of pupil Philip Plevneliev, who had a rare heart condition.

Watson House captain James Owen said “We were extremely pleased to have 85 runners this year, enabling us to raise such a substantial sum for the British Heart Foundation.

“It was great to see so many people taking part in the sponsored run to raise money for charity and in memory of Philip, who was a member of Watson House.

“There were experienced athletes and the not-so-experienced runners, but everyone finished, which was a fantastic achievement.”
