Indoor cricket

- By Alan Bensted

Broadstairs Cricket Club’s domination of the junior indoor game in East Kent is now complete. With conclusive Pharon League victories over Canterbury, then Chestfield, at the Kent Academy on Saturday, their under 13s claimed a league/cup double – as their under-15s had before Christmas. Broadstairs began the morning with 131-6 in the first semi-final with Canterbury, who replied with 88-4. Next Chestfield, after scoring 1045 – thanks mainly to Ben Wall’s unbeaten 25 – held off a spirited challenge from Whitstable’s Harrison Legg (32 not) and Paddy Underhill (26) to win by 12 runs. In the final, Broadstairs were ruthless. Although Chestfield batted through their 12 overs, they couldn’t get the ball away and totalled only 56-7. Reggie Baskaran and Harry Carter each took two wickets. Broadstairs lost Archie RalphHarding, run out for 15, and Tom Marshall (also run out) but an unbroken partnership between Nathan Fox (17) and Harry Carter (11) earned their club a clean sweep of trophies after 5.4 overs. Canterbury took third place with 96-5 against Whitstable, all out for 42 – six of their batsmen run out.
