Chartham bid hits Wall

Chartham, from the Premier Division, were odds-on to turn over The Bull from Division 1 in their Challenge Trophy semi- final, writes BILL CLARK.

But the papermaker­s could only muster the bare starting XI and some of them were clearly not up for the battle as the underdogs took a 3-1 half-time lead with strikes by Dan Cass, Paul Baker and Stefan Wall.

Dan Newport’s goal did little to inspire Chartham when the tie resumed and Wall made it 4-1 late on.

Red Arrow and Chilham needed two hours to settle their fourth-round tie.

Paul Barrett gave the islanders the lead but Steve Barleycorn equalised just before half time.

A goalless second half took the game into extra-time in which James Wake and Tommy O’brian netted for Chilham.

Danny Draper pulled a goal back with five minutes left but it is Chilham who will face Sturry for a place in the final.

Nick Whaites and Nick Dobson scored for Sturry in a 2-0 win over the University in the Premier Division.

Kingsmead Knights couldn’t contain Third division promotion hopefuls Chislet CW sprang a surprise in the Whitstable Charity Cup Junior Section quarter-finals when they ousted A1 Tyres.

Tyres head Division 2 with 11 wins from 11 but they were beaten 3-1 by Chislet, who sit second in their division.

Chislet now face a semi-final this Sunday against Division 3 leaders Monument PFC A who ran out 4-0 victors over Littlebour­ne Reserves.

Woodman’s Hall and Wingham contest the other last four tie.

Division 1 title-chasers Spartan will meet Waterfront in the Senior section semi-finals this Sunday after handing Premier Division opponents Chartham a 5-1 defeat.

The winners of that tie will meet Monument PFC in the final.

Wingham, from Division 2, face a Challenge Cup quarter-final with Chartham after edging first Burgess Hodgson despite scoring twice against the accountant­s.

Tim Jordan, Matt Lightfoot, Mike Kelly and Adam Horne scored for the leaders while Tommy Willett hit fired home a double for the Knights.

Social Club United beat Deal Community Reserves 4-1 in Division 1 with goals from Lee Palmer, Dan Small, Danny Atkins and Sammy Winch. Jake Hibbert was on target for the hosts.

Hampton Rangers extended their unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory over Charing. Ben Sergaent scored the opener while John Pilcher grabbed the second.

Lewis Thorne and John Mobey scored for division Falcons 3-2.

Littlebour­ne will play either Cross Keys or Monument PFC in the Faversham Charity Cup, Senior Section final after beating Premier Division rivals Tankerton Royals 3-0.

Champions Rising Sun finished their Premier Division campaign unbeaten after winning 3-2 away to nearest rivals Monument PFC.

The Sun finished with a record of 11 wins and a draw and have an 11-point lead over Monument, who still have one fixture left.

Faversham Strike Force Reserves have lost just once in their last 10 outings and proved too strong for City Lions in Division 3.

Mark Anderson had already put them ahead before Lions had Jack Barnard sent off and further goals from Luke Hopkins – his first for 16 months – Ollie Brown and Ali Adam sealed a 4-0 victory. Wingham against Locomotive Reserves in Division 2 but the visitors took the points 3-2 with George Ayling (2) and Dan Mackey doing the business in front of goal.

It was all too easy for champions Minster against AFC Herne Bay as Todd Jordan (2) Jordan Allen(2), Luke Jones (2) Adam Jewels and Ian Wallace netted eight. Matt Hewitt rolled in AFC’S consolatio­n.

Tankerton beat Larkfield 5-1 in the Veterans Division with Nick Bergin scoring a double and Matt Barman, Nick Green and Scott Drake claiming the others.
