Celebrate big day with music, food and fancy dress

Parties, picnics and a right Royal knees-up

The bunting is being unravelled, cakes baked and spreads prepared this weekend for a host of parties across the district to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Among them on Saturday is a giant picnic in Herne Bay memorial park from 11am to 4pm, with music, magic and dance shows.

Between noon and 4pm, the Hilltop community in Canterbury will be toasting the Monarch with a party in St Faith’s Community Hall in New House Lane, which will include games and crown-making craft sessions for children.

The bunting will be out on the village green and at the Alma pub at Painters Forstal for a Royal knees-up, which starts at 2pm and goes on to 10.30pm.

The fun day will include a children’s street party, entertainm­ent and traditiona­l games, as well as a fancy dress competitio­n.

The Worthgate Scouts will also be celebratin­g the occasion at their hall in Heaton Road, Canterbury, from 2pm to 6pm, where there will be a street party outside.

A host of events are also being held on Sunday.

From 1pm to 6pm, celebratio­ns will be taking place on the memorial field at Chartham, where a community picnic is being held.

The West Faversham Community Centre in Bysing Wood Road will be the venue for a Queen’s 90th birthday bash which is being celebrated from 2pm to 6pm with a family fun day.

From noon, there will be a street party in Selling, organised by the parish council which will also be celebrated at the White Lion pub.

The Rotary Club of Chestfield is organising a community picnic for the Royal birthday near the children’s play area at the park in Chestfield Road between midday and 4pm.

Numerous schools are also holding Queen’s 90th birthday celebratio­ns this week.
