Adams hopes to build up momentum

Kent cricket

Head coach Jimmy Adams says the Spitfires’ hectic schedule of five games in a week gives them the chance to build some momentum in white-ball cricket. Kent were due to face Hampshire in the T20 Blast at Canterbury last night (Wednesday) before a 20-over trip to Hove to take on Sussex tomorrow (Friday, 7pm). Glamorgan head to the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, on Sunday (11am) for a Royal London One-day Cup clash, with Somerset in town in the same 50-over competition on Tuesday (11am). On Wednesday, the Spitfires travel to take on Essex at Chelmsford (11am) in another 50-over game, having sneaked past Surrey in their opening ODC clash at Beckenham last Sunday. Adams admitted: “At this time of the season you are playing all three formats in quick succession and it is an interesting challenge, although one which we have had for the past couple of seasons so it is not new to us. “When you have so many games in such a short space of time it offers the opportunity to build some momentum but at the same time there is no time to dwell on anything if you have a bad result – there is always a game around the corner.” Mitch Claydon (ankle) is the only doubt for Kent going into the hectic spell, although he did bowl for the first time this week and Adams claimed: “We want to try and win every game with our best players. “With so many games, there might come a time when we have to prioritise one or another but we are not at that stage yet, we want everyone to be 100% and ready to go every day. “We’ll see where we are in four or five weeks’ time. “We had a good outing at Canterbury a couple of weeks ago (a T20 win over Somerset) and we’re raring to test ourselves against some top teams. “It’s what’s traditionally great about English summers. “The best players in the world come from all over to play against the best and long may that continue. “Our lads enjoy playing against the big names and we are going to be coming up against a few of them in the next few games.”
