Funds roll in from big cycle challenge
More than 200 women turned pedal power into vital funds for the Pilgrims Hospice on Sunday.
Choosing either a 25 or 50-mile ride, ladies gathered at the Freewheel Cycling Pub, Graveney, and set out on a picturesque route for the third Divas on Wheels event.
Every cyclist, from the newbies to the professionals, was there for one reason – to raise awareness and cash for the Pilgrims Hospice. So far, at least £8,500 will go towards the service and much more is still coming in.
Community fundraising manager Deborah Kellond said: “I have heard so many of the women here saying they have been inspired to take part by their own positive experiences of friends or relatives benefiting from Pilgrims services.
“Together their pedal power will really make a difference for the hospice.
“To raise this amount is an amazing achievement and will help to make sure Pilgrims can be there for the next family that needs us. A huge thank you.”
As a bell rang out for every lady crossing the finish line, there was plenty on offer to keep the fundraisers at the Freewheel.
Bodywell Group dished out well-earned massages, a team from Antoniou hairdressers offered assistance for those suffering from post-ride helmet hair and Freewheel landlord Adrian Oliver had arranged a barbecue.
He said: “A big thank you to all the riders, all the bike heroes, the medical teams, all the volunteers, all the stallholders, Jazz Omnibus, the Pilgrims Hospice Team, the Cycling Age Ladies and The Freewheel team for making it such a great event.”
The hospice would also like to thank Pink Lady Apples and Tassells Solicitors for sponsorship.
