Lion win again to retain top spot

Golden Lion A maintained their encouragin­g start in the Canterbury Bat and Trap League’s Premiershi­p with a fourth straight 2-0 – over GKB.

Bruce Aitken scored 23 runs and Colin Robson 22 and that along with Ian Raby Junior’s four traps in eight bowls helped keep the Lion top.

GKB’S best on the night were Andy Dixon, who scored 20 runs and Ben Smith, with three traps.

Artichoke A bowled the first four Catholic Club players for seven runs but then allowed the last four to score 50 runs with Brett Lees hitting 17 of them in the first leg.

It was not enough, though, as Spencer Snow’s 10 not out secured victory for the Choke who clinched a 2-0 success thanks to 16 not out from Alan Hopkins plus three traps from Tom Hopkins. Littlebour­ne Rec defeated last year’s runners-up Dove Inn B 2-0 while Gentil Knyght C amassed 105 in the third leg of their 2-1 home victory over Frog & Orange.

Skipper Dave John (48) and David O’sullivan ( 21) top scored for the Knyghts in the 3rd leg while Frog’s Tony Austin hit 28 runs in the second leg.

Division 1 leaders Golden Lion B recorded a 2-0 victory at Salters Lane side Faversham Town FC despite Town’s Luke Allchin taking three traps.

Dover Castle beat Castle B 2-0 away while Compasses won by the same margin at home to Castle A.

Market Inn hosted an in-house league game between their A and B sides and it was the B team who triumphed 2-0. Martin Gore (34) and Nick Lawrie (three traps) were their star performers.

Smugglers A&B took three points each from Shipwright Arms and Red Lion C respective­ly.

Clive Green hit 22 runs in the second leg to help secure a 2-0 win for Evenhill Crusaders against Red Lion B.

Kestrels are on a seven-game unbeaten run albeit they were held 1-1 at home by Dove Inn A with the second leg tied 12-12.

Andy Burden and Jack Fagg hit four traps each for the Kestrels.

Both Two Brewers teams clashed in Division 3 with the A team victorious.
