Medals galore for hosts Bay
Herne Bay SC hosted a Summer Sprints Extravaganza at Kingsmead on Saturday with more than 250 swimmers taking part.
Competing in their new sunshine yellow kit, the host team took 53 swimmers to Canterbury and brought home 50 medals.
Club captain Georgia Miles, 17, had a fantastic day, breaking a club record in the 50m breaststroke, winning gold in a time of 35.90seconds. She also picked up golds in the 100m breaststroke and the 50m fly.
Not to be outdone, her male counterpart Jordan Butler, 18, also won gold in the 50m breaststroke and a silver in the 50m backstroke.
Scarlett Fraser, nine, took gold in the 100m freestyle as well as five silver medals.
Junior captain Ollie Edwards, 11, was on top form winning three golds in the 50m and 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke plus four silver medals.
Junior captain Rose Douglas-sutton, 11, won gold in the 50m freestyle plus two silvers despite illness the previous week.
Charley Langford, 13, won three gold medals in the 50m backstroke, fly and freestyle plus two silvers and a bronze.
Layla Man, 9,, Marcus Crossman, 9, and William Gulliford, 10, were competing for the first time at a competitive gala and Hana Allen, 13, competed for the first time representing HBSC.
They all picked up new personal best times and Crossman won a silver and two bronze medals.
Other Bay swimmers taking silver and/or bronze medals were Adam Miles, Brooke Olson, Emmett Holdsworth, Ethan Sales, Evie Slater, Isabel Barrett, Jules Manser, Lacey Compton, Lewis Douglas, Louis Johnson, Ollie Carmen, Owen Head and Scarlett Langford.
Herne Bay, Thanet, Faversham, Ashford Town, Folkestone, Black Lion, Ashford School, Sheerness, Canterbury and Dover clubs were all represented.
HBSC’S club championships run throughout June and July to complete their successful season.
