Despite the poor weather over the last few weeks Herne Bay TC members have been able to continue playing matches in both the Kent and Dover & District leagues. The men’s 1st team played their last fixture in Kent League Division 3 away to HSBC and had an excellent 4-0 win. Graham Miles/ian Cooke won both their rubbers in straight sets and Alex Kazakeos/guy Farmer won a deciding tie-break 10-2 and finish third in their division. The men’s 2nds beat Frindsbury 3 at home in Division 7 while the ladies 1st team completed their Division 2 campaign with a home win against Horsmonden thanks to Danielle Miles/ Nicola Mileham and Louise Tucker/anne Gibbs to finish second in the division. Ladies 3 finished their Division 6 season with a much needed 3-1 win against Parklangle­y 3. Diana High/denise Parrett and Sarah Pout/ Christine Hanson hope to remain in Division 6 with their one win and two matches in which they lost on sets. In the mixed divisions the 3rd team completed their third 4-0 win when they beat Trottiscli­ffe 1 away thanks to Caroline Packer/eddie Fisher and Sue Toye/gary Smith. A depleted team then played a top-of-the-table decider at Maidstone which they lost 3-1 and now await the outcome of Maidstone’s last match to see if they will still be promoted to Division 5. Mixed 4 - Sarah Pout/ Colin Thompson and Diana High/mark Townsend - won two matches in Division 7 and are currently top with four wins out of five with one fixture left. In the midweek leagues the mens veterans team just beat Blackheath at home in Division 1 by one game. Graham Miles/ian Cooke and Eddie Fisher/gary Smith finished third in the top division. The ladies midweek 2nds played their first match in Division 3 beating Sevenoaks 2 4-0 at home. The team was Debbie Holden/christine Hanson and Diana High/ Sheila Wyver.
