Pates powers to two championsh­ip records

City of Canterbury SC had a team of six swimmers competing at the Kent County Amateur Swimming Associatio­n Masters and Senior Championsh­ips.

With swimmers aged between 18 and 80 City of Canterbury had a number of good results but the highlight was Robin Pates who achieved two gold medals and set two new championsh­ip records in the men’s 75-79 age category.

With a swim of 1.58.25 in the 100m Individual Medley, Pates bettered the old record set in 2007 by a massive 33 seconds.

He then went on to claim a second gold and new record in the 50m backstroke with a swim of 49:26, bettering the record set in 1993 by six seconds.

City of Canterbury SC welcomes new members of all ages. The Master Squad trains on Monday evenings at Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Canterbury.

Faversham SC stars shone at Herne Bay’s recent open held at Canterbury.

Amy Coupe not only swam to victory in the 13-year-old girls’ 50m and 100m backstroke but also smashed club records in both events too, recording personal best times of 35.61secs and 1.16.33 respective­ly.

Nathan Williams was also in fine form equalling the club record for the 13-years 100m breaststro­ke, stopping the clock in a PB of 1.26.33 to secure a silver medal. Williams went on to win the 13-years 50m breaststro­ke and took bronze in the 13-years 50m freestyle.

Faversham’s other gold medallists included Emily Holt in the 14-years 50m freestyle and Max Fordyce in the boys 11-years 100m breaststro­ke.

Silver medals were snatched by Emily Holt in the girls 14-years 100m freestyle (1.06.99 PB) and Eva Mcintyre in the girls 13-years 100m breaststro­ke (1.32.71 PB).

Fordyce also brought home a bronze medal for his swim in the boys 11-years 50m breaststro­ke while Eva Mcintyre won bronze in the girls 13-years 50m butterfly.

Faversham’s youngest swimmer Cameron Bullard, also came home with a bronze medal in his 9-years 50m butterfly race with a PB swim of 1.01.15 and he took an amazing 23 seconds off his previous time for the 100m backstroke (1.52.21 PB).

Molly Fletcher–hebden swam in six individual races and came away with six PBS while Eliza Mills, Emily Ing, Mia Kirk and Olivia Springett also set new PBS.

Faversham were competing against the host club Herne Bay along with swimmers from Ashford, Black Lion, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Thanet.

Faversham will host their next competitio­n in their outdoor pool against Beachfield, Herne Bay, Sittingbou­rne, Sheerness and Thanet.
