Herne Bay

Herne Bay’s David Mason has reached the final of the Kent County singles competition to be played at Bromley BC on Sunday. Mason beat Lawrence Smith of Bromley 21-18 in the quarter-final and David Taylor, of Halls BC, 21-13 in the semi-final played at Canterbury.

In the final, he will play Simon Green of Sandwich.

Bay’s men progressed in the Cox Cup with a win over Canterbury B.

The home rink lost 19-18 but the away rink of Bob Baldwin, Shaun Woolford, Paul Woolford and Eddie Allen won by a convincing 12 shots.

Bay play Folkestone Town in the next round.

The ladies progressed in the Mollie Clegett competition with a win over Whitstable. They will now play Wear Bay in the next round.

Bay were beaten by 40 shots at Kearsney after winning just two triples. Kearsney 113 Herne Bay 73 John Dryland, Roy Chillingworth, Paul Evans lost 22-16; Sam Hardy, John Offer, Brian Dennis won 15-13; Ted Milton, Andy Cattanach, Alf Collar won 12-9; Steve Caruth, David Knight, Jim Watson lost 26-8; Harry Algar, John Grogan, Bob Day lost 25-11; Richie Callanan, George Johnson, Jeff Graham lost 18-11.

They won by 10 shots at home to New Romney despite splitting the six rinks. Herne Bay 94 New Romney 84 Richie Callanan, Tony Bombone, Colin Tobutt, Bob Baldwin lost 18-16; Alan Jordan, Tony Ackland, Peter Gibson, Jim Watson won 24-10; John Offer, Paul Evans, Ray Chipperfield, Jeff Graham lost 19-17; Bruce Clayton, Mike Tibby, Colin Hadlow, Jim Covill won 25-14; George Johnson, Tony Bishop, Colin Holder, Richard Remmington lost 23-12.

Bay were edged out by five shots at home to Folkestone after going down on four of the seven rinks played. Herne Bay 108 Folkestone 113 Sam Hardy, Ronnie Phillips, Bob Baldwin won 26-12; Anne-marie Bombone, Roy Chillingworth, Rose Penniall lost 26-9; Mike Head, Lyn Riches, John Offer won 21-12; Mike Tibby, Alan Jordan, Sheila Tibby lost 13-10; Derek Hewett, Jackie Caruth, Jim Watson won 24-13; John Dryland, Diane Wiltshire, Gill Baker lost 21-11; Jeanette O’brien, Pat Baldwin, Tony Ackland lost 16-7. Amanda Dockambe, Elaine Hinkley, Janet Wimble won 10-8; Linda Abbitt, Barbara Franklin, Jude Prosser won 16-4.

Faversham’s men, playing in a Forest of Blean Triples League game, went down by 18 shots against Boughton. Boughton 97 Faversham 79 J.winslow, K.neame, M.grove won 19-9; J.graham, D.mitchell, J.chase lost 22-8; G.ashurst, D.evenden, B.grove lost 18-14; R.cordell, J.harris, S.gibbons won 28-8; F.williams, M.butt, A.tuff won 15-9; D.ayres, N.gore, J.fullagar drew 13-13.

Faversham lost a mixed game at Ramsgate by 57 shots. Ramsgate 119 Ramsgate 62
