The Canterbury District girls’ under-13 team ended their Canterbury Junior League Division 2 season with a 42-run run over Littlebourne. The girls lost Ailsa Naylor in the first over but Eleanor Todd hit the first ball she faced for six and then added five fours before retiring on 30 not out in the seventh over. Savannah Harris (21) followed soon after and although Jemimah Greenwood and Aimee Plumb went cheaply, Alexa Stonehouse hit 24 not out to push the total up to 125-5. Alexa Stonehouse’s superb catch off Jemimah Greenwood set the tone for the Littlebourne innings with Lottie Mcvittie claiming two wickets in the fifth over. Darcey Carter picked up a wicket with her first ball at which stage Littlebourne were 28-4 but they recovered with a 46-run partnership and closed on 83-5. The girls finished with four wins from their six league matches. At an awards presentation after the match, Alexa Stonehouse won the batting award, while Lottie Mcvittie and Eleanor Todd shared the bowling award. Ailsa Naylor collected the fielding award, with Madeline Wellard being named manager’s player and Savannah Harris earning captain’s player accolade.
