The pair amassed a record 203 for the opening wicket in Tuesday night’s One-day Cup win at Hampshire just a day after Bell-drummond struck a one-day career-best of 171 not out as England Lions completed a Tri-series clean sweep by beating Sri Lanka A at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

The 22-year-old shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 367 – just six short of the highest limited-overs partnership of all time – with Kent-born batsman Ben Duckett, who scored 220 not out.

‘He has been in fine form in all formats – he just loves scoring runs’

Bell-drummond hit 15 fours and four sixes in the Lions’ total of 425-1 – the highest one-day score recorded at the ground – while Duckett’s knock was the highest ever recorded in one-day cricket at Canterbury, surpassing the 175 scored by Kent’s Sam Billings for the Lions against Pakistan A the previous day.

Denly said: “Deebs continues his fine form for the whole season. Hopefully we see more of him but it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a call-up in the future.

“I see him getting a callup for England in any form. He has been in fine form in all formats for us. He has come on in white ball cricket this year, his red ball cricket has always been great.

“I hope he gets a call-up in some form soon and I’m sure he won’t mind which. He has been playing Lions this past week and scoring big hundreds for them so it can’t be too far away.

“There are a lot of players who have been scoring runs but he must be up there with the next best.” He added: “I would tell him to keep going the same way he has been. He has matured this year and just loves scoring runs.

“He is hard to get out and hard to set fields to so he needs to keep doing that.” Bell-drummond hit 22 against Pakistan A at Cheltenham and 52 against Sri Lanka A at Northampton last week, before departing for seven in the first of the two games at Canterbury.

Billings’ 175 followed his unbeaten 23 at Cheltenham and 68 at Northampton, while he also took seven catches in the series.

The 31-year-old left-handed all-rounder is available to play after being drafted in from Notts as cover for Calum Haggett (ankle) and Fabian Cowdrey, who had an emergency appendix operation last weekend, following the departure of Kagiso Rabada. Gidman said: “It’s an exciting time to come and help the lads out. We’re competing in all forms which is a healthy place for the club to be. Hopefully, I can contribute in some way.” He added: “I met Rabada briefly before he left. The club were lucky to have such a good young international player. “I won’t offer quite the pace that he can but hopefully I can offer a few different dimensions. I’ve prided myself throughout my career on being able to offer something in all aspects of the game. Hopefully, that can continue in the little stint I have got with Kent.” Gidman was seeking first-team cricket after falling out of favour at Trent Bridge and admitted: “I’m a Notts player and I’ve been allowed out on loan to join another great club in Kent. I just want to enjoy it, it’s been quite a tough 18 months. “Things at Notts – while I love the club, I’m enjoying it and I’m lucky to be there – have not been going fantastically from a cricketing point of view. I’ve been a little bit starved of first-team cricket so (a move) is something I’ve been looking to do for a while. Gidman made his debut at Lord’s against Middlesex on Sunday and added: “It’s been a bit hit and miss for a while in terms of a deal actually going through, for whatever reason. “I was nearly on the bus to join the Notts squad for a T20 last Friday night but the coach told me ‘don’t get on our bus, get down to London to meet the Kent boys at Lord’s’ so it was all quite last-minute.” Gidman also faced Hampshire on Tuesday and is available for Kent’s final 50-over games against former side Gloucestershire on Sunday and at Sussex on Tuesday, as well as the T20 at Surrey on Friday night. Gidman has taken 198 First Class wickets at an average of 23.48 and could feature with the red ball against Worcestershire at Canterbury from Wednesday, before rounding off his spell with a further contest against his former colleagues at Gloucestershire, this time at Bristol.
