DOUBLE-FIGURE BAGS HAVE BEEN THE ORDER OF THE DAY

-

12lb 12oz mirror were equally well deserved.

Both Gavin Stewart and Vince Samson finished their sessions with an 18lb mirror and a common of the same weight, while John Collins caught a 15lb common carp and a slightly heavier one of 15lb 8oz.

Only a few ounces separated the top two weights at this year’s night time Wacher Cup. Andy King was this season’s winner with 60lb 8oz, just inching ahead of Colin Durman, with another good weight of 59lb 1oz.

Ellis Titheridge came third with 50lb and Dan Boden fourth with 13lb 2oz. Steve Foreman weighed in 8lb 10oz for fifth and Steve West finished with 8lb 3oz for sixth, in stark contrast to his winning weight in last year’s competition of 137lb 8oz.

In addition to the 68 good sized carp, including a splendid 22lb mirror hooked by junior Bailey Culley, all caught at Stonar Lake recently, lots of other good quality fish have been landed.

Steve Handcock bagged 25 rudd to 1lb and a brace of roach to the same weight.

Darren Fry landed another big Stonar eel, tipping the scales to 3lb, following on from recent similar catches.

Dan Bean landed several small bream and bream were also targeted by Alex Stewart, Jonathon Galligan, Chris Culley and Ian Day.

Stewart hooked 12 fish to 5lb, Galligan ended his session with fish to 3lb 8oz, while Culley reeled in a bream to 7lb and Day to 6lb.

Mick Small’s eight bream to 8lb were as welcome to the net as Scott Robert’s 12 bream to 6lb and numerous tench to 4lb 8oz.

Rudd and tench to 1lb 8oz were landed in abundance by Andy Tappenden in another great trip to Stonar.

More hot, bright weather has made the fishing challenging at Bewl Water and the trout are 30 to 40 feet down in the Main Bowl.

However, one angler caught 11 fish at the far end of Hook Straight on buzzers.

The best areas for boats have been the Main Bowl and Chingley. Bank fishing is not easy as the water is warm and the trout have moved into the deeper, cooler water but anglers are having some success fishing from the Dam Wall.

This year’s Canterbury & District AA Blundell Cup will be contested on Sunday, August 14 at Trenley and Stour Lakes. The draw will be held at Trenley at 8am and fishing will be between 9am and 4pm.
