Cornfoot chasing finals glory

Canterbury pair Alan Cornfoot and Steve Wells have won their way through to the National Finals.

Cornfoot will represent the club in the senior singles with Wells partnering his clubmate in the senior pairs.

Cornfoot overcame Bellingham’s Paul Buck 21-16 in the county final, having beaten David Henning, of Sevenoaks, 21-13 in the last four.

He and Wells qualified in the pairs after pipping Ronald Sydney of Horton Kirby and his partner 20-19.

The finals start at Royal Leamington Spa this weekend.

Canterbury’s A side lost to Herne Bay in the final stages of the Bert Cox Cup. The club’s men lost 110-99 to Aylesham and Snowdown despite both teams winning threee rinks. Four Whitstable rinks out of six triumphed against Crayford, as the hosts won 133-99 overall. Whitstable lost 113- 101 to visiting Herne Bay in the Forest of Blean League. The host club won four rinks and lost on two but a heavy defeat on one end cost them the chance of victory. They picked up four league points. In a match involving seven mixed rinks, Whitstable lost out to Southend & District 130-119, despite taking four of the rinks. A visit to the oldest bowling club on their original site, Milton Regis, proved to be too much for six mixed triples from Whitstable. They won on only two of the rinks and lost overall 117-86.
