Doughnut tickles the taste bugs
When Billie Rose bit down on a doughnut and heard a “massive crunch”, she realised there was more than jam inside.
The shocked 25-year-old is demanding compensation from the cake’s producer after she almost swallowed half of a beetle that was lurking inside.
The self-employed machine operative, who used to live in Chartham but now lives in Hernhill, spat the insect out after biting into it.
She said: “I bit into it and the beetle’s head came off in my mouth – which was not something was I expecting.
“It is disgusting as you do not know what diseases they get and what went into my mouth.
“It did not taste of anything, but just made a massive crunch.”
The treat was bought by Miss Rose’s friend last Wednesday at Dargate services on the Thanet Way.
Three of the four ‘funsize’ doughnuts – from the Spar convenience shop – were eaten when they were bought, but Miss Rose decided to tuck into the leftover dessert the following day.
She said: “I don’t usually eat doughnuts, but I was hungry that morning and needed something quick to eat.
“Beetles go into dirty places and if that goes into your mouth, it’s just not very nice. I do not feel ill, but it is just the thought of it.”
Miss Rose – is now asking for compensation from Orpington producer Country Choice, which provided the pudding to Spar.
Kevin Coles, a spokesman from the firm, said bosses will carry out a full investigation.
