Artichoke A moved up a place to second in Premier Division with a 2-0 home victory over leaders Golden Lion A in the Canterbury & District league. Spencer Snow hit three traps in the first leg, while his son, Graham, hit four traps on the night for Artichoke. Teammates Mark Goldup hit 30 runs and Martyn Bax 15 not out. Andy Minter battled back with 29 runs for the Lion but all to no avail. The Stouts played a big part in Frog & Orange’s 2-0 win over Littlebour­ne Rec 2-0. Jim Stout hit 33 runs in the third leg and Nathan and Keith took three traps in the win. Brett Lees hit 55 runs to help steer Catholic Club to a 2-0 home win against Dove Inn B. Tom Wratten’s four traps were in vain. Gentil Knyght B moved off bottom spot with a 2-0 win at GK C. The 1st leg didn’t start too well for the B team as No.1 Steve Nolan got caught by Gentil skipper Dave John for 0. Ben Smith steadied the ship by hitting 29 runs in the first leg. Melvyn Austin took four traps and Dave John three for C, while Andy Dixon and Scott Watson hit the trap three times each for GK B. Golden Lion B helped themselves to a 2-1 victory over Market Inn A and lead the pack in Division 1. Dover Castle kept up the pace by defeating Castle A, while Market Inn B had a 2-1 success over Compasses to sit third. Castle B’s Lee Rigden hit 62 runs to help his side to a 2-0 victory over Faversham Town FC. Smugglers B top Division 2 helped by a 2-0 home success over Evenhill Crusaders. Kieron O’connor rattled up 37 runs for Two Brothers as they won away 2-1 at Red Lion B. Smugglers A also won 2-1 at Red Lion, this time at the expense of the C side. Division 3 early pacemakers Kestrels pulled seven points clear of second-placed Artichoke B, defeating Artichoke 2-1. Dove Inn A had a 2-1 home success over the Alma, while Two Brewers A beat Two Brewers B 2-0. The 79th singles competitio­n at the Red Lion, Dunkirk, had 31 entries. The semi-finals saw Tony Jenner, of Golden Lion B, beat Adam Edwards (Red Lion C) and Ben Riddle (Red Lion C) defeat Dover Castle’s Dan Eller. In the final, Jenner edged out Riddle 3-2.
