Mixed open won with outstandin­g display

The winners of Chestfield’s Mixed Open were Helen and Jim Johnson, from Sidcup Golf Club, with an outstandin­g 47 points. Second place went to Pat and Bob Whitty, from Hever Castle, who beat Kate Kernutt, from Sittingbou­rne Golf Club, and Neil Jones, from Upchurch Golf Club, on countback after both pairs had scored 44 points. The day was a great success, with a full field of players representi­ng clubs from all over the South East. . Special thanks go to Brian and Sylvia Worboys who have organised this event for many years and always ensure that the whole event runs smoothly. In the ladies’ section, the Ping fourball betterball competitio­n was won by Judi Henderson and Mary Rowney, with 47 points. Runners-up were Mo Fentiman and Jo Sillitoe, on 44. The winner of the Peggy Gittings Trophy was Kathy Lloyd whose 40-point tally put her two clear of Catherine Yates. Third place went to Penny Perkins on 37. . The Club’s Veterans Cup, played on Saturday, was won by Nick Brown with a net 66. Runner-up was Iain Grant (net 70) with Brian Mankelow third one shot further back. Sunday’s medal was won by Tom Johnson with a nett 67. Runner-up in the low handicap section was Steve Chandler (net 69) with third place going to Roy Paine (net 70). In the 13+ handicap section, the winner was Martyn Town (net 68). He beat runner-up Mo Sbitri by one shot. Third place, also with a net 69, was Ken Monckton and the overall best scratch score of the day went to Nick Gladstone, with a gross 74.
