Shed project needs more helpers

-

A charity wants to hear from individuals who have a skill or interest they can pass on to others.

Bechange works with adults who need support and has recently received funding to set up a ‘shed’ group, aimed mainly at men aged over 50.

Men in Sheds groups have been established around the country and now Bechange is forming one called ‘Be-shedders’ for Aylesham.

They draw upon individuals’ expertise and shared knowledge to encourage a wide range of pastimes, helping novices to find a new hobby or set of skills.

They can range from learning to play a musical instrument, carpentry and fishing to photography, bird watching and arts and crafts.

Bechange plans to hold an open day to launch Be-shedders but first needs people willing to share their knowledge and skills with others keen to learn more.

Cheryl Maley, from the charity, said: “Sheds groups have proved to be great social hubs and have opened up whole new interests among men over 50 who have skills to share or the time to learn something new. If they have just moved to the area, it offers the chance of making new friends.”

Anyone interested in the Beshedders project should call 01304 840134 or email Cheryl.maley@ bechange.org.uk.
