Street End will play a match in memory of Canterbury sporting great Stan Brocklebank on Sunday.

The afternoon will raise funds for the Pilgrims Hospice, who cared for Stan before his death in April 2012 at the age of 78.

The fast-bowler and stylish batsman played for Canterbury British Legion before the merger with Lower Hardres and Nackington to form Street End in 1981. He also played table tennis for England juniors in 1950 and won the Canterbury League bar billiards title.

From 1pm on Sunday, Street End will face a team assembled by former Kent player Ben Trott, who is married to Ella, one of Stan’s daughters. Admission, including tea, is £5 with children going free. Chestfield chairman Paul Gibson hailed the club’s cricket week as their best ever. The junior and senior sections combined for the first time with great success, attracting plenty of support during the week at Grasmere Road and seeing all but one club side victorious. The under-11s and under15s overcame rivals from Canterbury on the Monday, although the under-13s were beaten by their city club counterparts. The following day, Chestfield saw off the strong challenge of Kent League touring side Lobsters, with Dylan Hunter hitting a century to help overcome a target of 256 set in just 35 overs. In a T20 against an Kent Cricket Community XI on Wednesday, the host club produced an all-round team effort to reach their total of 168 with four wickets and two overs to spare. The big game of the week was against the MCC on Thursday but again Chestfield came out on top. The members’ side were bowled out for 244 with Jackson Woodcock claiming 5-30. Dan Patching (59) gave the hosts the perfect start but it needed an unbeaten 53 from Arron Bennett and 45 not out from Woodcock to guide Chestfield from 176-7 to victory. Despite a rain-hit Friday, the under-15s finished the week on a winning note against Hollingbourne. Gibson said: “It was our first cricket week for a number of years but it was a great success. We had 70 people sit down to lunch on the Thursday and we are already looking ahead to next year.” CHESTFIELD v MCC
