Six-hit Town take honours in thriller

-

Dean Grant, earning a controversial red card.

Jack Delo came off the bench to take over in goal but moments after the break, his side were down to nine when Kenny Sanders earned a second yellow after fouling Grant on the edge of the box, Stanford curling the free-kick wide.

Delo denied Stanford when clean through on 53 minutes but it was 5-2 just before the hour when Campbell drove down the right and into the middle before crossing to the near post for Grant to slot home.

Bay got a lifeline five minutes later when a long throw fell to Stuart Zanone to spin and fire low past Godmon, however it was Town who had the final say when Grant hammered home from a Stanford free-kick.

Town were edged out by a single goal at Cray Wanderers on Saturday.

Town wasted a host of chances, although Godmon had to save a second-half penalty from Grant Basey after Dan Carrington was penalised to keep the deadlock intact. However, he could do nothing to prevent the only goal being scrambled in from a set-piece 11 minutes from time by Anthony Adesite.

Wood had impressed in goal as Bay registered their first win of the season with a 2-1 success against Whyteleafe at Winch’s Field on Saturday.

Mark Lovell headed in Danny Williams’ cross to open the scoring on 11 minutes and although Wood had to keep Leafe out and the visitors struck the bar after the interval, Hasler made it 2- 0 with a free-kick just before the hour.

Wood was eventually beaten from the spot three minutes later after Joe Kennett’s late tackle allowed Sam Clayton to squeeze the ball home from 12 yards. However he prevented an equaliser three times in the closing stages as Bay held on.
