New year party for children
On Saturday afternoon in St Paul’s Parish Hall, Longport, Canterbury, 64 children of members of the Canterbury Electricity Sports and Social Club gathered for their New Year party.
Before tea, “Uncles Ken and Cyril” kept the children going with party games. The tea, with all the trimmings, was made possible by Mrs. Tharle, the committee men and their wives, after which “Uncle Bill” at the microphone had the boys and girls singing songs until the ladies who Kentish Gazette, January 18, 1963
had been working behind the scenes were able to join the party to see “Uncle Henry” (Mr H. Galligan of Faversham) intrigue the company with a sequence of magic.
Ice cream followed for the children and then the Punch and Judy show, till at last, and to some the most important event, the distribution of the presents. Each child also received a balloon and a bag of sweets.
