Decent start to Cup programme

There were several encouragin­g performanc­es from league sides in the county cup competiton­s which got underway on Sunday.

Littlebour­ne led the way in the Kent Junior Cup, easing to a 10-2 home win over Dover side Whitfield.

Chislet CW also beat Sunday League opposition, handing Smok Air a 5-2 defeat while Monument PFC A ran out 7-2 winners over fellow league side City Lions.

Canterbury Toon suffered an early exit, losing 7-2 at home to HCS United.

St Stephen’s were the day’s highgest scorers, easing to a 13-1 victory over Hawkinge Wanderers in the Kent Junior Trophy.

Monument PFC Reserves were too strong for Key IT Support, winning 8-1, while Chartham scored five without reply against Hawkes United.

Blean Sunday joined them in the second round after edging Woodne sborough 2-1 but Littlebour­ne Reserves bowed out, going down 4-2 to Birchingto­n USC.

The reformed Heron Athletic shared a 10-goal thriller with league rivals Northgate Rangers but came out on the wrong side, 6-4.

The Elephant pipped Crusaders 2-1 and Woodmans Hall and Bay Athletic drew 1-1.

The one Division 2 game saw Whitstable Town OB beat Faversham United by the odd goal in seven.
