Veteran Tong still doing it

-

After back-to-back defeats Snowdown bounced back with a 49-0 success against Brockleians in Shepherd Neame Kent 1. The hosts started the game aggressively, with Jamie Claringbold catching the ball from the kick-off, paving the way for Snowdown to go through the phases they had perfected at training. The hosts kept the speed of the game at a pace that allowed them to dominate. Tries from Leighton Docherty, Cary Jackson and Claringbold helped rack up the points for the Colliers, with successful conversions from full-back Gareth Bramwell, who also scored a try. Brockleians defended doggedly throughout and pressed in the final 10 minutes of the first half without success. The try of the match came from evergreen fly-half Phil Tong who has been associated with the club for 25 years. He bowled over the opposition hooker to confirm victory. The Colliers visit Kings College Hospital on Saturday.

Snowdown 2nds went down 17-7 at Ashford Barbarians despite having most of the possession. They took the game to the Barbarians for half-an-hour but then conceded a try and two more followed before the break as heads dropped. The second half was a different game with the introduction of a couple of older, experienced players. However it wasn’t until a minute before time that Snowdown found an opening to score a try under the posts courtesy of Jamie Gibbs, which Tom Bates duly converted.
