Previous offences include wounding with intent

-

The court has heard about Foster Christian’s previous convictions at the request of his defence team.

In 1985, he was convicted of wounding with intent after claiming he had been attacked by a coach-load of drunken Bolton Wanderers football supporters outside Deptford police station in south east London.

He was jailed for 15 months having denied the offence,

Questioned by prosecutor Philip Bennetts QC, Christian admitted in the 1985 offence he slashed a man across the neck with a lock knife.

“It was a lot more than an argument,” he said. “I was being attacked outside a police station. I have got half a coach-load of football supporters against me.”

Four years later he was convicted of wounding with intent and jailed for five years.

He claimed he went to the former Catch 22 club in Gillingham and was beaten up by bouncers and retaliated with a screwdriver.

Christian said he was dragged out of the club and beaten up. He stabbed one of the doormen in the lower back with the screwdriver.

“I had been jumped by bouncers for nothing,” he said, arguing it was self-defence.

In April 2003 he was jailed for two years for affray, possessing an offensive weapon and common assault.

Another driver tried to run him off the road when he was with his children.

“He threatened me in court,” he said. “He punched me.”

Mr Bennetts told him: “He was in the witness room about to give evidence. You went in and attacked him.”

Christian: “I went in to confront him verbally and he attacked me.”

He denied telling the victim: “That will teach you to keep your f****** mouth shut.”

In April 2013, Christian was convicted at Canterbury Crown Court of assault causing actual bodily harm and jailed for nine months.
