Come on! Not all men called Lee are bad

-

Two oafs have just been jailed for a wicked drunken assault on a woman at a house in Canterbury.

Claire Royle punched and kicked her female victim before her boyfriend Lee Campbell decided he would pour wine on her.

The court report on Kentonline prompted the following comment: “Why do so many guys with the christian name ‘Lee’ appear in these court case stories?”

This would seem a tad unfair to people called Lee. I come from that generation when a lot of boys were named Lee. I still know three people called Lee and only two have been in court – one for fighting in the road and another for vandalising his neighbour’s car.

Over the past few weeks my Facebook feed has been deluged with grieving remainers posting links to news reports about the decreasing value of the pound.

The short-term aim is to show those of us who voted to quit the EU the vicious idiocy of our choice. The long-term aim is to promote the image of a faltering economy for as long as is needed to persuade the government to overturn the democratic will of the people.

They would rather the economy crashed than for the UK to succeed outside the EU (which we haven’t actually left yet).

Unsurprisingly, they omit to mention that the greatest financial meltdown of recent times, the crash of 2008, happened when we were very in thrall to the European project and had little pretension towards leaving it.

Highways chiefs at county hall have announced they are making a “17km stretch” of the Thanet Way between Marshside and Dargate 50mph because it is apparently unsafe.

They then added to the irritation by admitting the work will take months to do.

But by not using miles in their press statement, they have caused further aggravation. We Brits prefer miles, you see.
