No point in CCTV that doesn’t work

-

I’ve read your article about vandalised cars in St Stephen’s Court with interest as we are a business based in Castle Street (We’re Scared To Leave Our Cars In The Street Now, Kentish

Gazette, October 13) .

We regularly have our windows smashed – the worst incident of which came two weeks ago where the whole of our period window was destroyed.

We had to take pictures of this for insurance as the replacement costs are immense.

We are one of many businesses that are suffering in the city centre.

CCTV should have been installed years ago. The cameras that are installed do not work.

We have a ‘decommissioned’ camera

at the end of Castle Street – what’s the point?

We know we have no police patrolling at the weekend due to cuts, so when is the council going to do something about it?

We need cameras all around the city that actually work.

Council spokesman Rob Davies needs to understand the measures in place are not working and the council needs to ensure that any cameras that are installed do actually work. Lizzie Jordan Humberts, Castle Street, Canterbury.
