Film tells story of benefactor
The UK premiere of a film about a philanthropist who spent his fortune ensuring African-american children could attend school is being screened at the Gulbenkian cinema on Sunday.
Rosenwald tells the story of American Jew Julius Rosenwald, the son of immigrants from Germany who became one of the 20th century’s most successful businessmen.
It has been organised by UKC’S Centre for Philanthropy and will also feature a question and answer session after the screening.
The university launched its MA in philanthropic studies this year and the first cohort of students will be attending the screening, along with Trevor Pears of the Pears Foundation, which has donated almost £200,000 to the university to support teaching and research on philanthropy.
The showing starts at 7pm and is free and open to all, with any donations going towards the Gulbenkian’s work with children and young people.
Tickets are available through www.eventbrite.co.uk.
