Sutcliffe impresses in east London
Boxing
Alfie Sutcliffe recorded an impressive win over Repton youngster John Cooper in east London on Friday. The 13-year-old Whitstable Boxing Club member gained a split decision over national finalist Cooper in the 52kg contest on the home fighter’s club show at East Ham Working Men’s Club. Coach Kevin Place said: “He was on Cooper’s case throughout the fight, putting him on the back foot. To get a decision like that there is almost unheard of.” Ronnie Murray’s first fight of the season, in a 42kg bout against home boy Kurt Lee, ended in a points defeat at Hoddesdon ABC’S Open Show. Place said: “It was a bit of a messy fight, but got rid of Ronnie’s ring rust.” Alfie Rumball competed in his first skills bout on the same show against T Mcmillen. “He boxed very well,” said Place.
