Adams exit

Jimmy Adams says he will be ‘Kent for Life’ despite leaving his role as head coach after five years.

The former West Indies Test captain – who has been linked with the national coaching role after last month’s sacking of Phil Simmons – will not extend his current contract beyond this year and will return to Jamaica.

The 48-year-old said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at Kent, which has been a great learning experience for me. I wanted to be involved in a club that was seeking to grow and I am fortunate to have found that here.

“The past five seasons have gone by so quickly. It seems just yesterday that I arrived on a crisp morning in early February to begin my new role here wondering if I would survive the first two years.

“The five years that have followed have been an exceptionally positive experience in the company of some fantastic people both within and outside the club.”

Chairman George Kennedy CBE said: “We thank Jimmy for his fine service of the club and wish him all the best for the future.

“His commitment to developing Kentish cricket talent is shown by the core of homegrown players now at the heart of our professional squad.”

Adams admitted: “It’s been a delight being involved with all our players as they have developed during the period and especially watching the younger players who have made the step up to First Class level.

“Working with the club to develop a stronger support team to back up our players has also been a highlight for me. I’m extremely grateful for the members and supporters who have consistently backed me, the team and the club’s overall vision.

“I would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to the supporters who have made my time here so enjoyable, including those who made the members forums so lively and interesting.

“Like (the supporters) I experienced the entire kaleidoscope of emotions here and now carry the badge ‘Kent for life’.”

Adams missed the County Championship season finale against Essex after being given dispensation to return to Jamaica for personal reasons.

Assistant coach Matt Walker took charge for the drawn game at Canterbury which saw Kent secure second place in Division 2 behind Champions Essex.

Adams added: “I’d like to express my gratitude to all the players, coaches and support staff who have been a part of my inner circle.

“I’m grateful for their time, honesty and in so many cases their patience with a stubborn coach who may not have listened too well at times.

“Being a part of their lives has been a very enriching experience and one I’ll carry for the rest of my life.

“I wish the entire county as much success possible in the seasons ahead.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Darren Stevens has signed a new deal.
