Free-scoring Whitstable win again

SCEL round-up

-

Whitstable made it four straight wins with a 4-1 success against Premier Division basement-boys Fisher at the Belmont on Saturday.

The Oystermen took their tally to 15 goals in those four games.

Craig Thompson opened the scoring with a header from a Connor Hood cross after 11 minutes and Charlie Smith curled a shot past Ricky Wadman 10 minutes later.

Dan Eason was called upon to make one good save from Trey Williams just after the half-hour but had little else to trouble him as the home side largely controlled the first half.

Darren Marsden added the third on 55 minutes with a lobbed finish over Wadman from 25 yards.

Kane Rowland was denied by the keeper and Marsden, Thompson and Dane Luchford all wasted further chances, while Williams hit the post at the other end.

The fourth arrived in the last 10 minutes, a cross from Ashley Brown was turned into his own goal by Mikel Thompson before some casual defending allowed Toyo Adeshina a late consolation for the visitors.

Nick Treadwell had a great chance to make it five in stoppage time after good work from Marsden but shot just wide.

Meanwhile, Canterbury City made it 10 games unbeaten with a comprehensive display to beat Beckenham Town 3-0 in the same division. They wasted little time in going ahead. Although Taser Hassan had already drawn a save from Adam Highstead with a fierce shot, the Beckenham keeper was beaten inside five minutes as Dave Pilcher fired home after exchanging passes with Gary Mickelborough.

Hassan fired over and Matt Martin jinked through but shot straight at the keeper as City piled forward and Pilcher turned a Martin cross from the left just wide.

At the other end, Laurence Harvey and Chris Webber made timely interventions, while keeper Daren Hawkes denied Jamie Pearson.

City doubled their lead on 20 minutes when the ball broke to Martin inside the City half following a Becks corner and he burst forward before playing the ball behind the last man for Mickelborough to hit low past Highstead.

City were rampant and Webber and Mickelborough went close to a third and Hassan saw a shot blocked, while Harvey headed wide and Highstead prevented an own-goal and also thwarted Pilcher.

He was eventually beaten for the final time 10 minutes after half-time when Harvey powered home a header from a corner after Highstead had turned a Pilcher effort around the post.

Pilcher saw another shot tipped onto the post and substitute Ian Pulman was denied by Highstead while Rob Lawrence saw a late header ruled out for offside.
