A popular city pub may have taken Christmas dinner a little too literally – by putting reindeer meatballs on its festive menu.

The Jolly Sailor in Northgate is serving up its own slice of Rudolph as a speciality starter.

But far from facing a backlash from customers – as reported by the Daily Mail – landlord Ian Blackmore says the feedback has been nothing but positive.

“The response has been incredible and people are looking for- ward to trying it,” he said.

“There has been no backlash at all. It’s all been positive feedback,

“We’ve always served traditional pub grub and I wanted to move away from chain-type food, so we’ve changed to a unique menu.

“The reindeer being one of the starters is just a talking point and an amazing dish.

“It comes from the same species and is within the venison bracket – people just don’t like the thought of it.”

According to the Arctic University of Norway, reindeer meat is one of the leanest and healthiest, low in fat and high in vitamins and essential fatty acids.

But it is far from the only exotic dish served up at the pub, which has teamed up with Wild Food, a specialist catering company, to spice up its menu.

Other choices include crocodile skewers, alpaca fillet steak, buffalo and ostrich burgers and kangaroo and boar sausages.
