The Welsh Springsteen…
He’s been dubbed the Welsh Springsteen for his powerful, gritty voice, but Martyn Joseph also has extraordinary guitar playing skills with a unique percussive style.
The two attributes combine to make him a stand-out performer, and now he can be seen at the Cathedral Lodge in Canterbury on Sunday
He has built a reputation as a mesmerising live performer and his music and social commentary are said to empower and speak for many, “creating pictures and stories and feelings”.
Respected BBC 2 music presenter Bob Harris described it as “stunning, heartfelt music” while Q Magazine said he was one of acoustic music’s most original voices, and the most forward-looking of his generation of singer/songwriters.
His career has spanned 30 years and 32 albums, with over half a million record sales. He has toured with artists as diverse as Art Garfunkel, Jools Holland, Suzanne Vega, Celine Dion and Shirley Bassey
Last year he released a new studio album called Sanctuary, from which he will be showcasing material as well as performing older favourites.
In 2014, Joseph also launched Let Yourself Trust - a not-forprofit organisation which aims to challenge injustice, educate via advocacy and campaign for human rights.
The gig starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £18 on the door or £16 online.
