Winner Sue has arms full

Golf CRICKET: club’s top achievers step up to lift their awards Indoor cricket

The amazing 2016 exploits of Sue Shepherd were recognised as the ladies of Broome Park GC held their annual meeting on Saturday.

Outgoing lady captain Gillian Matthews recapped the year’s events before handing over to incoming captain Alison Doe.

Matthews presented Shepherd – unavailabl­e for this week’s prizegivin­g – with the large haul of trophies she won during the year.

Shepherd claimed the Broome Park Trophy, the Club Championsh­ip Cup, Ron Vincent Cup and Silver Pheasants.

She was also winner of the knockout match play trophy, the Mallet Cup. Her all-round feat is unrivalled in the club’s history.

Maxine Field and Stephen Bowles triumphed in Canterbury GC’S Turkey Trot Mixed Foursomes Stableford on Saturday.

They carded 39 points, one clear of Kim Atkinson and Terry Hare who pipped third-placed Alison Kingston and Dennis Soutar on countback.

Sarah Wetherell and Ricky Balcombe were fourth with 37, just ahead of Margaret Francis and Bill Flynn with the same score.

Beverley Mcneil led the way in the Ladies’ Aggregate November Stableford, the 19-handicappe­r scoring 34 points to top Division 1.

Gillian Soutar (h15) was a point back in second with 20-handicappe­r Jane Webber third with 31. Pat Askham led Division 2 with 33 points playing off 28, three better than runner-up Sarah Wetherell with Rosemary Cardy in third with 29.

Doreen Whiting (h33) topped Division 3 with 28 points, one ahead of Jean Johnson and Margaret Elderson.

Beverley Cork won the ladies’ nine-hole qualifier with 32 points, playing off 13, two better than Edna Furness (h17) with 15-handicappe­r Geon Norman in third with 27.

Elizabeth Berry (h15) won the ladies’ November weekend medal, pipping Jean Johnson after both scored 69. Gillian Bailey was three shots back in third.

Winners in the Chestfield Turkey Trot Pairs competitio­n on Saturday were Greenwich v Chipstead, Horsham v Hastings, Molesey v Cray Wanderers, Sittingbou­rne v East Grinstead, Whyteleafe v Ramsgate. Sunday: Guernsey v Lewes.

Their 44 points pipped Brian Ridsdale and Barry Jones on countback, while third place went to Derrick Clark and Richard Punyer, with 43 points, on countback from Jim Mcdonald and Malcolm Aspell.

The next day, bad weather impacted on the number of players taking part but Sunday’s winners were Terry Mcdowell and Sean Rutt with 42 points. Second place went to John Burnage and Darren Bovis, on 41, beating Derrick Clark and Andrew Sait on countback.

Yvonne Philpott was the winner of the ladies’ Stableford on Thursday, with 35 points, one more than runner-up Christine Dunlop, who beat Penny Perkins on countback.
