The annual England versus Scotland match took place at Chestfield GC on Saturday, complete with an array of traditional coloured outfits.

The early results seemed positive for Scotland but as subsequent matches came off the course, it soon become clear that the result would go to the wire.

The final four games produced two wins for England and two halved matches, resulting in a drawn game and Scotland retaining the trophy, having been victorious the previous year.

Winners in the team Stableford, on Sunday, were Phil Hughes, Dru Sait, Colin Reid and Derrick Clark, with a total of 127 points.

Second place went to David Wale, Gianni Vitiello, John Burnage and Gavin Shopland six points back, with third place going to Peter Newman, Matt Broadbent, Chris Broadbent and Neil Hatton one further back.

After a three-year break, the St Stephen’s Golf Society returned to The Ridge, Sutton Valence, on Saturday for the last league and cup match of the season.

With four members looking to secure a cup win and several others hoping to improve their league position, it was always going to be a competitive day.

For the second month, Jason Robson not only secured the overall league winner’s position, he also won the day and beat Dave Gregory in the knockout cup final by 20 points.

The runners-up final was a much closer event with Steve Winder and Kevin Mullins taking the result to the last hole but with both players failing to score, Winder took third place.

Mark Vinter and Ian Jackson took second and third places in the day competition.
