YOUTH FOOTBALL: EAGLES’ WINNING SEQUENCE ENDED BY LEADERS

-

Canterbury Eagles under-12s saw their winning run ended at home to leaders Thanet Colts, who had also triumphed in all their games so far this season.

Colts showed their class from the start and Eagles defenders Marvin Gourlay, Thomas Hayes and goalkeeper Pearson Hulks were kept busy in the first half.

Although they fought valiantly, Eagles found themselves 4- 0 down at half-time.

Eagles at times looked more like their usual selves after the break with some good link-up play and after conceding a fifth goal, Eagles managed to pull a goal back.

Alfie Graña chipped the ball into the path of Dylan Saunders who powered a half-volley high into the net.

Thanet had the final say with a sixth goal, while Eagles were unfortunate to lose both Jack Goodall and Finley Nunn to injuries. Eagles P.hulks, H.peak, M.gourlay, T.hayes, F.nunn, M.saunders, A.graña, J.hall, D.saunders, J.goodall, L.williams.

Canterbury Eagles under-13s maintained their 100% start to the season with a 3-1 win against Kennington Juniors in EKYL Division 1 on Sunday.

Kennington dominated possession in the opening 20 minutes but were unable to find a way past the well-drilled Eagles defence and even missed the chance to go ahead when a penalty was well saved by Eagles keeper Sam Milsted.

The attack that followed saw the home side take the lead when Marco Licence played in birthday boy Lewis Saunders to fire home from close range.

Eagles doubled their lead when man-ofthe-match Morgan Green played a ball for Saunders to chase and he shot past the advancing keeper.

The second half saw Eagles take control and they added a deserved third goal when a poor clearance was picked up by Saunders who spotted the goalkeeper off his line and hit a first time shot over his head to complete his hat-trick.

Kennington added a consolation goal before the final whistle. Eagles: Milsted, Rai, Moorcoft, Luton, Iyaloo, Steen, Green, Licence, Connelly, Valrade, Rogers, Brady-lowe, Saunders, Ford, Nimanaj, Rencber, Hough.

Player-of-the-match was central defender Rosie Day.
