Trio bring music from all around the world
Music from around the globe is on the programme for the Canterbury Music Club’s concert next Thursday, December 15.
Performed by Kosmos, the evening is expected to feature wild gipsy fiddling and emotive Jewish and Greek music, gliding seamlessly into hot-blooded tango.
Also included will be interpretations of Japanese, Polish and Sephardic songs, new arrangements by and for the ensemble – with references to classical composers including Bach, Brahms and Sarasate.
Twice winners of Selected Artists by the Making Music organisation, Kosmos is re-defining the relationship between classical and world music.
United by a shared passion for improvisation and music from around the globe, as well as the rigours of classical training, each member brings an individual flavour to the group. The members are soloists in their own right. Harriet Mackenzie is an international violin concerto soloist and chamber musician, with a particular interest in contemporary music.
Meg Hamilton is a unique viola player, specialising in world and folk music styles including Celtic, Romanian, Greek and Middle Eastern, while Milos Milivojevicis is an international competition winner on the classical accordion with a passion for tango and Balkan music.
The concert starts at 7.45pm in the St Gregory’s Centre for Music in North Holmes Road, Canterbury. Tickets cost £15 on the door or in advance from www. canterburymusicclub.com.
