Brothers banned for the season
Indoor cricket
The sort of behaviour “that has no place in any cricket arena” has resulted in two of the Gould brothers, playing for Littlebourne 1, being banned for the rest of the Pharon Indoor League season.
Sully and Byron (better known as Buzz) were reported by the umpires, Ken Amos and Dan Loader, for three offences in the match with Canterbury 2 on November 27 – only days after all clubs had been reminded to uphold the Spirit of Cricket.
Littlebourne lost the game in the final over, bowled by the Goulds’ father, Graham.
The offences were: Dissent at an umpire’s decision, be it verbal or by gesture; Acting in a manner contrary to the Spirit of Cricket or bringing the game into disrepute; Appealing or advancing at an umpire, in an aggressive manner.
Sully, captain at the time, and Buzz have been banned for four matches from December 4 from all cricket played at the Kent county club (including the Dover League).
Sully has been told he should have set an example “especially as players’ and team conduct are the captain’s responsibility.”
Both offenders have been told that “their behaviour was even more regrettable as the offences took place in front of several young players and spectators at the Kent Cricket Academy.”
If there is a repeat of such behaviour they will face “further disciplinary action.”
Buzz has a previous conviction from September last year when, playing for Whitstable, he was banned for three matches after “kicking the stumps in an aggressive manner.”
