Club among country’s best
Gymnastics
City of Canterbury Rhythmic Gymnastics Club youngsters competed in the Club Team Championships and also the final round of the Elite Group League at Fenton Manor, Stoke on Trent.
The competition is a highlight in the rhythmic gymnastics competition calendar where individuals, duets, trios and groups compete in each age group.
In the Elite Group League, CCRGC had 17 entries in the Espoir and Junior sections although Espoir Group member Giselle Desseaux, the under-12 British Champion, missed out through injury with May-jun Ho and Acacia Young working hard to fill her place.
The Junior Group performed an exceptional ball routine, gaining them their highest score to date while the Espoir hoop Group achieved their personal best score for 2016.
The newly-formed Senior Group gave a confident and clean Clubs & Hoop performance with Maddie Orman and Chloe Young making their debut at national level competition.
It was clear after the first section of Group routines that the performances and composure of CCRGC gymnasts was calm and focused.
In round three of the Elite Group League, CCRGC Espoirs achieved first place with the Juniors taking third. This being the final round of the Elite Group League, the overall awards were also presented, with the Junior Group receiving silver and the Espoirs finishing in fourth place.
Team CCRGC returned with a haul of medals and trophies following their exceptional success in all age groups, the seniors achieving gold, juniors silver and espoirs achieving bronze.
Team CCRGC also came second overall as they drew on points with the winning club and the final result was determined by execution scores.

Third/fourth play-off: Whitstable 108-3 (B. Milk 25 ret, R. Martin 21 not, C. Vant 17, H. Legg 16 not); Canterbury A 94 (R. Ellerby 24, R. dezoysa 21). Whitstable won by 14 runs. Final: Chestfield Red Caps 100-4 (B. Carpenter-friend 32 not, J. Mitchell 18); Broadstairs 103-3 (T. Marshall 38 not, G. Kidd 26 ret, T. Whelan 15, H. Leach 15; E. Chandler 2-15). Broadstairs won by three wickets.
