Saturday’s Stableford competition at Chestfield produced some excellent scores. The low handicap section was won by Gianni Vitiello with 42 points, four clear of runner-up Gavin Shopland who beat Chris Broadbent on countback. In the 13+ handicap section, the winner was Peter Welch with 42 points while second-place went to Chris Murphy with 40 and Kevin Page was a further point back in third. Winners in the Team Stableford on Sunday were Kerry Murray, Richard Miles, David Wells and Colin Plews, with a total of 98 points. Second place went to Roger Burton, Andrew Lawrie, Alister Mcilroy and Graham Birch, with 94 and in third place were Ray Sidders, John Heffernan, John Jones and Tony Baldwin another point back.

& Seasalter GC Ladies Section began their annual Christmas Competition with serveral rounds in varying conditions. The best three Stableford scores of the contest count towards the prizes which are awarded at the Christmas lunch. In fine conditions, Judy Butcher made a great start with 38 points in the first round, closely followed by Cath Whitehead on 37 and Penny Perkins on 36. The top-two were rewarded with handicap cuts for their fine rounds. The second round was played on a bitterly cold day although nearly all the field completed the 18 holes. Leading the way was Maz Garlinge with 34 points with Perkins three shots back in second and Louise Tucker in third with 30 points. The third round was played a week later in mild conditions where Stella Lakin stole the show with a hole-in-one on the 6th. Perkins had a steady round and carded a commendable 36 points. Joan Sykes was one behind on 35 and Mel Bashford another shot further back. Inclement weather the week after meant few ladies thought playing golf was a good idea. The course had a few temporary greens as a result of the weather and headed off during a shower but those who did make the effort were rewarded later in the morning when the sun came out. Best score was Louise Tucker with 34, followed by Vilma Parrett on 29 with Bashford in third on countback from Jean Hudson, both with 23.
