Jenny Rutherford and Diane Plommer claimed victory when the Winter Cups was held at Canterbury Golf Club this week. The cups were donated in 1990 by two past captains, Gwen Allen and Moira Holt. As the club calendar was quiet, they thought it would be enjoyable to play as a pair for a trophy and added to the fun by asking some gentleman golfers to serve warming drinks as each pair arrived at the 10th tee. Neil Parsonson, the club captain, and Malcolm Wagget, the ladies vice captain’s husband, duly obliged this year. The hot beverages and snacks were much appreciated by all the ladies. Rutherford and Plommer led the way with 39 points, ahead of Christine Burley and Val Lucas in second with 37 points, followed in third position by Sheila Cairns and Catherine Hinds with 36 points. There have been full fields for the first two ladies Wednesday competitions at Canterbury GC. The first was a ‘Friendly 123’ which was won by Fran Fearn, Joy Flynn and Diane Florence with 67 points, closely followed by Annie Mclaren, Christine Bowles and Dorothea Sampson on 66 points with Jenny Rutherford, Angela Le Breton and Lizza Berry in third with 65 points. The weekend medal, with only six contestants, was won by Sarah Wetherell (h25) with a net 77.

John Faulkner, David Welsh, Paul Fawcett and John Faulkner Junior joined forces to win the latest Team Stableford at Chestfield GC on Sunday. They scored 85 points, on a course that only two days before had been covered with snow, to finish two ahead of runners-up Michael Wilson, Mark Norman, Ollie Youll and Darren Rowe with Peter Newman, Darren Bovis, Phil Veness and Tony Lees in third on countback.
