Struggles on the road continue

Faversham

-

A lacklustre attacking display saw Faversham’s terrible form away form continue with a 19-10 defeat at Dartford Valley in Shepherd Neame Kent 2. Two second-half tries were not enough to overcome the hosts and break the Castaways’ losing streak away from home. The opening quarter was all too familiar for the visitors, two quick tries putting them 12 points down before they managed to get into the game. Two injuries for Faversham further dampened the mood for a team struggling to find consistency and develop any kind of attack. Three times the Castaways found their way inside the Dartford 22, only to have their lineout intercepted and territorial gain squandered. Dartford proved particularly adept at holding the ball up in the tackle and forcing knock-ons to stunt any developing attack. It took until the second half for Faversham to get on the scoreboard. With the lineout finding its mark, the Faversham pack was able to set a solid platform, breaking and reforming a rolling maul to successfully drive over the line with Pete Ehmann coming away from the bundle with five points. Sloppy defending from the kick-off immediately scuppered any momentum as a jinking run from Dartford found its way through the line. The build-up to Faversham’s second try was by far their best phase of the day, retaining possession and driving their way up the field. A wide miss pass from Jack Meadows found a mismatch out wide for Jack Williams to cross in the left corner. Needing to score twice to win, Faversham rarely looked able to threaten the opposition line for the remainder of the game with Dartford again disrupting any progress. Faversham will need to drastically improve their attacking play in order to record an away victory and finish in the top half of the table. Faversham host Shooters Hill on Saturday.
